SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH
alcohol and body

Beer better than wine for the heart

If you are thirsty, then drink beer rather than wine. A French study that appeared in the August edition of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition shows that beer is better than wine for the prevention of cardiovascular diseases.

The French researched the presence of the amino acid homocysteine in the blood of 1 196 male and female wine and beer drinkers. Whereas beer drinking appeared to have no effect on the production of the acid and even broke it down, drinking wine was found to result in the production of homocysteine. An increased concentration of the amino acid in the blood increases the risk of cardiovascular disease. Whatever you do, don’t go away with the idea that you can (or should) drink gallons of the frothy brew every day. Trop is too much. Two to three glasses a day for men and one or two glasses for women are sufficient. Cheers!
