alcohol and mind 18/12/2001 Profiles of beer drinkers and wine drinkers
Who drinks beer and who drinks wine? In the United States the Survey Research Center of the University of Maryland conducted a national inquiry, in which among other topics the persons questioned were also approached concerning their consumption of beer and wine. For this particular part of the inquiry, the National Beer Survey 1999 - 2001, 1,389 persons of at least 21 years old were questioned about their drinking habits. The main conclusion of the inquiry was that the beer drinkers and the wine drinkers are to a large extent one and the same. More than three quarters of the wine drinkers drinks beer on a regular basis and almost three quarters of the beer drinkers drinks wine regularly. Compared to teetotallers people that drink beer and/or wine are highly qualified and rather active visitors to the internet. The inquiry also reveals that moderate drinkers are also more passionate museum-goers than non-drinkers. Differences Apart from the numerous similarities the researchers also discovered a few differences. Somebody that eg. preferably drinks wine drinks in general less than a typical beer drinker. Men prefer beer to wine, while women in most cases prefer wine. In general men also drink more than women. Source: National Beer Survey, John P. Robinson Ph.D., The New Brewer Sept/Oct 2001 | ![]() |
